Here are 4 ideas from this book - adapted to organizations and teams...
The book is called📕 Unf#ck Your Brain 🧠 by Faith G Harper - and it looks at how neuroscience can help us with wellbeing.
Something that I loved, was how the author emphasized that we have storytelling brains, we are always telling stories, not because we want to, but because we have to - as she says “it’s a biological human drive”
The style is straightforward and humorous. (there is swearing, as the title probably will tell you)
Working with organizational change projects makes me always look for ideas...
These 4 takeaways are adapted from the book for teams and organizations:
1. Employee Well-being:
Knowing that your employees' behavior and productivity can be affected by concepts they build and past experiences, can lead to more empathetic and supportive management. (Get to those root causes and design for them)
2. Team Dynamics:
By understanding how stress affects brain function, teams can work together more effectively, with a greater understanding of where their colleagues may be coming from.
3. Leadership:
Leaders who understand the principles of stress and neuroplasticity can foster a more compassionate and supportive environment that promotes employee well-being and, consequently, higher productivity and engagement.
4. Organizational Culture:
Understanding these concepts can help shape an organizational culture that acknowledges and respects mental health, reducing stigma and promoting open conversations.
The last thing here: The brain can be retrained, which means we can all work individually towards increasing our well-being... but don't forget that the environment (organizations) plays a huge role as well.
