How can you make your customer and employee insights more actionable?
The COM-B Model and the Theoretical Domains Framework
Well, you have to understand what those insights are and how to group them in the right places.
I have found that the best way to do this - if we are designing for change - is to use an evidence based model or framework.
An indispensable tool for my work - one that initially started by me using the COM-B model (by Michie and colleagues) - but which has since gone deeper into adding more tools, as it requires going deeper than just COM-B.
One of those I like to use is the The Theoretical Domains Framework or TDF for short.
The TDF consists of 14 domains and it can help you identify key drivers of behavior.
In addition it can guide the development of effective behavior change interventions.
Working on behavior change is never easy - but doing it with just your gut feeling and intuition alone is just not going to cut it any more.
We need good thinking tools to help us understand the factors that influence all of us to adopt new behaviors or not.
How to use the TDF?
1. Start with the behavior you want to enable, context etc..
2. Use the TDF to help you sort and group your insights
3. Use the insights - now sorted - to address the things that are making it hard to do a behavior.
4.Find solutions, build features, create communications that address those things that are making it hard (hint - you could use BCT's)
5. Test, Test, Test and Iterate
Thinking Tools like TDF take practice to learn - but there are resources out there to help you :)
